t’s pride month! and it’s more than just seeing people who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community out and about and being proud. It’s more than changing your phone wallpaper to the pride colors. Pride is about the LGBTQ+ community fighting and continuing to fight for equal rights.
Even if you don’t know anyone who is LGBTQ+, doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of the movement.
1. Throw Your Own Pride Party
Most people love a good party but throwing a pride party celebration is a great way for you to skip the crowded parades and also show your support. The people who attend your amazing gathering can even donate a few dollars. Kindly ask your quests to donate anywhere from $1-$5 to show their support. That way you can donate the funds to a charity or local pride event. If your guests don’t have the cash, they can always send it via Venmo.
2. Volunteer At A Pride Parade
Volunteering is a great way to show your support. Parades always are looking for volunteers to help out and there is no such thing as too much help. If you live in a big city like NYC, it’s easy to sign up. Just visit their local website or the local website for your town or city.
3. Donate Donate Donate
You don’t have to donate a lot of money even $5 makes a difference and is appreciated. If you don’t know which organization to donate to you can always look up some great organizations through Twitter or ask your friends. One organization, Trans Lifeline is an amazing group that’s dedicated to the well-being of transgender people.
4. Be Active On Social Media
Showing your support on social media is not only free but it has an impact. You have followers on social media and your followers have followers. Whether they’re your friends or just people you met online. Sharing pride-themed tweets or photos can be your way of contributing and helps to spread awareness.
5. Support LGBTQ+ Businesses.
Give your support by supporting local businesses and companies, that support LGBTQ+. Doing a little research can reveal companies that have always supported the LGBTQ+ community. Companies like Target and Ben and Jerry’s have always expressed their support and you can show your support by supporting them.
