Winter can be a challenge, especially when it comes to staying healthy, and I don’t just mean in terms of body weight.
Use your feet. Ditch the elevator and take the stairs when you need to go somewhere. Instead of sending that email or picking up the phone, take a walk to visit the coworker you’re trying to reach. Simple? Yes. Effective? Oh yes.
Drink orange juice. It’s earth’s magic health nectar. You think I’m kidding, but I’m not. I started drinking OJ about two to three times a week and it’s kept me from getting sick all season (knock on wood.) It tastes great and you can feel great about your choice to brunch with mimosas.
Take vitamins. Like #3, this goes with that earth’s magic thing. Bad weather lowers our immune systems which is why everyone gets colds when it’s cold. If you take a good vitamin every day, you can keep the sickness at bay. I recommend Airborne gummies- they taste great.
Plan ahead. We all know the eating temptations that come with cold weather, especially those that come from a little delivery man on a bike. If you keep your fridge stocked with good things, you won’t be as tempted to order out on the icky, cold days.
Exercise at your desk. If you’re like me and are planted at a desk 8 hours a day, there are ways to use it to your advantage. Aside from getting up and doing jumping jacks every hour, there are easy exercises you can do while remaining in your chair. Check out this WebMD article for suggestions.
Obviously these little tips aren’t going to be your saving grace against gaining weight and unhealthy behavior this winter, but they sure will help. Don’t be that sickly, weak girl on the train that everyone avoids, and find your own ways to stay healthy this season!
