Bubble Tea isn’t new to the New York food scene, but recently more and more specialty shops have been popping up around the city. For those who don’t know what bubble tea is, bubble tea otherwise known as boba tea is a Taiwanese drink invented in Tainan and Taichung in the 1980s. It is served either hot or cold and it is known for containing sweet tapioca balls and/or jellies.
With spring finally, upon us, we created a list of our five favorite bubble tea cafes in New York City to celebrate the warm weather.
Ten Ren Tea Time
73 Mott St, New York, NY 10013
If you’re looking for a classic Boba fix, this Taiwanese tea chain is the place to visit. With nearly 61 stores in the US, Canada, Japan, and Malaysia and over 74 stores in Taiwan, Ten Ren Tea sets the standards for Chinese teas. We recommend trying the Black Milk Tea and the Taro Slush.
Bar Pa Tea
85 Kenmare Street, store #2, new york, NY 10012
Not your average café chain, we promise. Bar Pa Tea is small shop located in Nolita, that strives to create healthier alternatives to the original bubble tea beverage without compromising the taste. On top of creating healthy options, Bar Pa Tea has gone above with their tea flavored soft serve ice cream that you can top with tapioca bubbles.
Debutea, Tea And Coffee
217 Thompson St, New York, NY 10012
Located a few blocks away from Washington Square Park, this new bubble tea café is an innovative shop dedicated to serving Cheese Foam Tea. For those of you who’ve never heard of cheese tea, it is a fan favorite drink overseas in Asia. The cheesy foam is made with sweetened cream cheese and whipping cream, and it is sometimes topped with Himalayan Rock Salt or Matcha powder.
206 Grand St, New York, NY 10013
A bustling café with an expansive menu ranging from Japanese snacks like onigiri, takoyaki, and Tokyo fried chicken, to fruit-infused teas such as their signature drink, First Love, a peach and mango white tea. Yaya Tea is the place to go with friends after school or for a quick snack before heading home.
23 Clinton St, New York, NY 10002
This San Fran favorite, now New York hot spot, takes a modern twist on Asian bubble tea with drinks made with organic and house-made ingredients. Some of our favorite drinks are their Strawberry Matcha and their Coffee Milk Tea with Almond Jelly.
